In caring for your iguana it is not an easy task.  You will have to take months of your time to allow your iguana to trust you.  Believe me, it can be done!  Iguanas may be very timid when he/she first arrives in your home and should be given a day or even two to settle down in its new surroundings.  When the time has come and you wish to hold your iguana I suggest the long way.  This process may take a couple of weeks if not longer. The long way is to allow your iguana to come to you.  NO FORCE ALLOWED.  When feeding your iguana, slowly try to pet him/her.  Eventually place your hand under the front legs. Allow the iguana to climb up.  This process does take long but I feel it causes less stress on the iguana and will be quicker.  Showing the iguana that he/she is boss shows trust/faith.  The iguana is more apt to being your friend then your enemy.
The other way of getting your iguana is to literally pick him up.  Let him/her  move around your hands but don't let him/her go. Eventually the iguana will calm down and you can place him back into his/her home.  Gradually he/she will want to come out.  To me this process does work but I don't like it.  I find that iguanas become stressed very easily.  To me the least amount of stress you give your iguana the better.
